Also called visco-elastic foam, memory foam was developed years ago for NASA who needed a material that would relieve the pressure experienced by astronauts during lift off. For the past 20 years memory foam has been used in the medical industry to help patients find relief from and help prevent bed sores. Memory foam is a pressure and temperature sensitive material that can automatically adjust in order to completely support a sleeper. Many people have found that its high density and body temperature activated ability to mold to one's body greatly relieve pressure points (such as your shoulders or your hips) leading to a much more sound and comfortable sleep. Memory foam will return to its original state upon removal of the heat and/or pressure source.
Memory foam is available as an option on the Egret and Phoenix airbeds. Each of these air beds includes a Foam Vapor Barrier which is a layer of convoluted polyurethane foam encased in a vinyl covering. When you order optional Visco Elastic Memory foam, we remove the polyurethane foam and insert a 2 inch layer of flat 4 pound density memory foam inside the foam vapor barrier.
